THE TAG TEAM FASTPASS MATCH THIS SATURDAY FOR PWM IS SURPRISINGLY DEEP IN HISTORY

Following the very successful Nothing Else Matters event yesterday at the Mecca in Ridgefield Park, NJ with Spark Joshi Puroresu, Pro Wrestling Magic heads towards this Saturday night at the Meadowlands YMCA in East Rutherford, NJ with (Welcome Home) Sanitarium.
One of the big matches announced is a match for the Tag Team Fastpass, with the winning team receiving a guaranteed shot at the Pro Wrestling Magic Tag Team Championships, currently held by El Pacto Diabolico.
Dan Murdoch & Steve Off of the Sons of Old School face the Princes of the Universe of Eddie Thomas and Eric Thomas!
Believe it or not, there is a lot of animosity between these two teams…actually, between two guys on opposite ends. There has been a lot of underlying heat between Murdoch and Corvis that has stemmed over two decades.
Back in 2010, Murdoch, then the Bodyslam Wrestling Organization World Heavyweight Champion, challenged anyone in the locker room to a 10 Minute Open Challenge. And if the opponent won or survived the 10 Minutes, they would receive a championship opportunity.
On July 24, 2010, that man would be Eric Corvis.
Corvis and Murdoch did battle, but it immediately went personal. During the match, Corvis began fist pumping the champion in the face. Murdoch took a shiner and got immediately aggressive. Then, after Murdoch got a countout victory, Corvis badmouthed Murdoch on the microphone, basically degrading him to the point where Murdoch challenged him to a BWO World Heavyweight Championship match at the next event.
That event would be August 6, 2010 in Port Reading, NJ at Mayhem on the Gridiron.
This night was memorable for a multitude of reasons. It was Murdoch’s first title defense. It was minutes from Corvis’ hometown. And, most of all, it was the BWO debut of the late Dusty Don Murdoch, the champ’s father.
Had it not been for the old man playing Murdoch’s punk card and slapping him in the face, it’s a pretty good chance that Eric Corvis would have been BWO World Heavyweight Champion.
All these years later, my sources in the independent wrestling pipeline say there has been unresolved heat between Murdoch and Corvis. Murdoch still harbors resentment for the black eye from the disrespectful fist pump, and Corvis is low-key still bothered that he couldn’t beat Murdoch in his home area.
Murdoch and Corvis have not been in the same ring together since, nor has there been any itch for either man to do business with each other since.
This makes the Tag Team Fastpass battle a wee bit more personal than it might need to be. For Thomas and Steve, respectively, they are going to need to keep both men’s real animosity in check for the right to becoming the #1 contender to the PWM Tag Team Titles.
Who is going to win this battle on Saturday? Can the Sons of Old School put themselves one step closer to finally becoming champions? Or will the Princes of the Universe play spoiler and aim for gold?
For you old school New Jersey independent wrestling diehards, this will be one to remember.
