The Ultimate Pickle Experience in Edison, NJ - Indie Wrestling Impresses

Yesterday, I was enjoying my quiet Saturday, taking time to really unwind. In truth, I was preparing to clear my day to listen to Night 1 of SummerSlam 2026 on Sirius XM Radio with Vic Joseph and Booker T.
Then, Matt “Palasma” Palaski, friend of Hardway HQ and close personal friend on mine, shot me a picture of this:
Immediately, I texted him back. “Are you at a show?”
Matt wrote me back instantly. “Im at the pickle convention. they have ‘pickle wrestling’.”
Almost immediately, I had “Palasma” cover the show, as if I needed a reason for Matt and his awesome family to enjoy some good independent wrestling.
After some back-and-forth texting, I learned that Matt was at The Ultimate Pickle Experience, an event at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ. The event was truly dedicated to vendors and fans of pickles.
Prior to the show, in conjunction with East Coast Professional Wrestling, there was, according to Matt, a “Nathan’s style” pickle eating contest. Then, he was entertained by the idea of “pickle wrestling”, as Matt stated, “the less I know going into it, the better.”
Then, he sent me a photo of a familiar face, but I guessed wrong on which face.
“Is that the ring announcer from the NWA show in Wallington?”
After a serious glance, “no, that’s not Shane Fair, but that’s ROB CHASE!”
Matt and his kids were hooked instantly.
Here are the results from the show yesterday, according to Matt.
“The Slamburgular” Rob Chase defeated Romeo Vice. There was referee interference.
The Spring Breakers beat JG3 and Ramon Melendez.
Captain Emmitt Pain defeated Brolly in a brawl which went around the entire ringside area.
El Masko Rado beat “Modecai”
In the main event battle royal, Sergio Pickle survived and won for all the human pickles!
Here was the feedback from Matt regarding his experience with “Pickle Wrestling”.
It was at the Edison Convention Center. Aside from the wrestling, it was mostly vendors selling pickle related merch.
I saw a lot of folks wearing wrestling shirts (as was I), but mainly WWE. So it wasn't the "insufferable smart mark crowd".
As far as ranking the crowd for wrestling...I'd say it was a solid C+. You had the folks that "knew" how to pop and react but it was the minority (for example, repeating 'one pin fall')
The boys weren't killing themselves for a show that was gimmicked as the "eastern champion pickle wrestling". But it was honestly a solid performance. And everyone had fun with the absurdity of "pickle wrestling" that I felt the crowd had as much fun with it as did the boys.
Overall, it was a memorable experience. I honestly was expecting them to dial it in like the wrestling at the East Brunswick State Fair.
This is the type of feedback I love. Matt, who is a big fan but not as jaded as internet wrestling personalities and fans are, cut it straight to the point. This was meant to be an exhibition to the highest hilt, and it connected. Knowing now that the P in ECPW stands for “Pickle” chuckles me, but for the amount of work ECPW has done in local New Jersey independents for exposing young talent to the industry, this makes me smile.
This is what independent wrestling is supposed to be. Fun, silly, and gimmicky. Add in the fact that Rob Chase, one of my all-time favorite independent wrestlers solely for his ability to be a character, this sounds like a Hell of a good time.
Thank you Matt for reaching out and covering this event. And all hail Sergio Pickle for becoming the King of Pickle Wrestling. Singlehandedly saving my jaded mind one match at a time.
