"The Driller" Gets Drilled By Kentucky Champion Elliott Russell on AMW Showdown
On the 10th Anniversary Show of Appalachian Mountain Wrestling this past Tuesday on YouTube, Showdown demonstrated the diabolical nature of the Kentucky Heavyweight Champion Elliott Russell.
The Volunteer from Tennessee won the gold back at the Superbowl of Wrestling on August 22 in a six-way scramble to become champion. However, it was due to the display that cagey veteran Eddie “the Driller” Browning, AMW’s resident John Wayne, did prior to Russell stealing the win.
On the following Showdown on August 28, “the Driller” pinned young Ethan Heyre following a beautiful Cutter. Meanwhile, Russell beat El Sriracha Kid to retain the Kentucky Championship.
This past Tuesday, while Russell was disparaging the fans of AMW in a backstage promo, “the Driller” interrupted with something to say.
Eddie scolded Russell, saying that he took the cheap way out to become Kentucky Champion at the Superbowl of Wrestling and that he wanted his shot at the gold.
Elliott’s response? Attacking Eddie from behind when he walked away.
Matt “Palasma” Palaski and I have become big fans of “the Driller” since beginning to watch AMW weekly, and we were appalled by the Kentucky Champion’s actions.
However, Matt went back and rewatched the entire segment on Showdown. Here was the unfiltered text he sent me regarding Eddie Browning’s performance:
“Ya know what’s great about him? I had to rewatch the promo he did with Russell. He doesn't appear to be a guy of many words. That promo he says like...3 and a half lines. No catch phrases. No exclamations. Just sharply said.
If he was some young 20-30 something saying those lines word for word. it wouldn't work. You'd write it off as a sub-par promo. No. His mere presence did the talking. A guy with patina like Eddie emits a sense of imminent danger when he speaks sharply like he did.
A few sharply spoken lines is all the warning you're going to get before you're grappling for your life against a guy, who looks like his ideal fun is working in a coal mine.”
Matt’s final sentence rings true. “The best writing rooms in the world can't make an Eddie.”
The moral of the story is simple: we hope Eddie “the Driller” Browning gets revenge on Elliott Russell and takes home the Kentucky Championship.
There’s only one Eddie. And Russell made the wrong move attacking him.
