The Pretzel Deathmatch: An Absolute Spectacle at the ECWA

Folks, as a fellow wrestling nerd, I have seen a lot of wrestling. And when I hyped up the match between King Reginald and Cheyenne Ortiz in a Pretzel Deathmatch for the ECWA on May 2, I just figured it would be a comedy match and that would be it.

Good gracious, was I wrong. It was the MAIN EVENT of PretzelMania VIII.

With all the spectacle and pageantry going into this match, I must say, I was genuinely surprised. Cheyenne, although a former ECWA Tag Team Champion and currently ECWA President, is not an active wrestler. King Reginald, for all of his regal and royalty, is not a five-star catch-as-catch-can specialist.

However, the Pretzel Deathmatch was a FIGHT.

With pretzels crushed, smashed, thrown, hit, and smacked, both Ortiz and Reginald really went all out. Every time a new bag of sourdough pretzels were introduced, a loud POP filled the air as it hit the target. Not even Mozart Fontaine and the legendary Mr. Ooh La La were able to avoid it, as Jay D. Luscious walloped them with fresh bags of sticks.

Reginald thought he avoided disaster at one point when he narrowly missed a Bed of Pretzel Rods; however, the ECWA President acted quickly and used the salty weapon as a D’Lo Brown chest protector and crunched the King with a splash.

At the end of the match, Ortiz loaded up his singlet with a bevy of unopened pretzel bags and splashed off the top rope onto Reginald. Three slaps of the mat later, and Cheyenne Ortiz survived the Pretzel Deathmatch.

There were some injuries to the ECWA President. Due to the amount of salt vaporizing the air in the squared circle, Ortiz was dehydrated and required some serious fluids before more serious injuries took place. Even with pretzels, there are safety hazards.

Please check out the entire PretzelMania VIII event on YouTube from the ECWA. But watch the Pretzel Deathmatch. Even in 2026, I can now say I’ve seen it all.

Congrats to Cheyenne Ortiz! Down with the King and all hail the new King!
