I normally don’t write too much about current modern mainstream wrestling, but this one I couldn’t resist.
R-Truth became the first man to hold both sets of the modern versions of the WWE and World Tag Team Championships!
Back at WrestleMania XL in 2024, R-Truth and Miz, alongside A-Town Down Under, split the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships back to the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles in the four-team ladder match.
The following week on April 15, 2024 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Raw, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, alongside Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, awarded the Awesome Truth with the new and rebranded World Tag Team Championships. The interaction between Miz, Truth, and “Tomasso Ciampa” is still one of the more hilarious segments in recent memory.
The duo held onto the gold until June 24, 2024, when Finn Balor and JD McDonagh of the Judgment Day picked up the duke on Raw in Indianapolis, IN.
634 days later, in his home state of North Carolina, R-Truth, alongside his one-time Judgment Day ally Damian Priest, defeated the MFT of JC Mateo & Tama Tonga to win the WWE Tag Team Championships!
The SmackDown Tag Team Championships were rechristened the WWE Tag Team Titles on the April 19, 2024 SmackDown program. Since then, the blue brand’s tag team division has been loaded with fantastic units and matches. The unique odd couple tandem of Priest & Truth has stunned the entire WWE Universe.
It also puts Truth in a bit of WWE history, being the first man to hold both sets of modern WWE tag team titles.
After everything that has happened with Ron Killings over the past year as it came to his WWE career, including leaving and re-signings, as well as the uncertainty of his character, it is awesome to see Truth put his place on the WWE record books.
