ON THIS DATE: ACE Presents the Tag Team Chance of a Lifetime Rumble (6/12/10)

Sixteen years ago today, American Championship Entertainment was in the midst of a hot run in the New Jersey independent wrestling scene. In 2010, the promotion, led by the great Mike Morgan, ran Crossroads VI at the ACE Arena on 725 Sip St in Union City, NJ.
This was an amazing event. Tommy Dreamer vs Raven in a match Ten Years In The Making, Dan Maff vs Mo Sexton in an incredible Iron Man match for the ACE Heavyweight Championship, and William Wyeth and Jorge Luis Rivera bled buckets in a Four Corners of Barbed Wire match.
However, one of the more innovative matches of the night was the first ever Tag Team Chance of a Lifetime Rumble.
Morgan, a complete innovator when it came to multi-man match types, brought five teams together in a gauntlet style battle royal. The winning tandem would receive a guaranteed shot at the ACE Tag Team Titles.
The year before in 2009, it was a ten man rumble, and the late, great “Remix of Pro Wrestling” Vince Steele won. There is actually an article on the infamous Thomas “the Gate” Rodriguez elimination from that match on the site.
The five teams:
Ed and Tom Scanlon of the BS Express
Thomas “the Gate” Rodriguez and “the Magnificent” Giovanni Marranca
Shawn Walker and Dover
Killa S and Anthony Silva of Team TAG
Andrew “Tiny” Johnson and Vince Steele of Steele Johnson
The match itself was a lot of fun. The BS Express ran the gauntlet, going from worst to first and winning outright. Rodriguez delivered an awesome Primera Dropkick to Tom. Dover dominated with his power and strength. Team TAG got the biggest ovation as the hometown heroes of Union City. And Steele Johnson came up just short.
At the end of the day, Ed and Tom won a guaranteed Tag Team Title shot. Although they lost to R8D X at Mercury Rising on July 10, 2010, they got one final shot on August 14, 2010 at Anarchy and finally became ACE Tag Team Champions.
Also, shout out to Ken Carrera ring announcing, Big Jose and Brian Young reffing, and Classic Mikey D and some mark doing commentary.
Finally, RIP Vinny. Miss you so much. Calling your matches was truly a Chance of a Lifetime.
