EL SRIRACHA KID FALLS SHORT OF THE KENTUCKY TITLE AGAINST ELLIOTT RUSSELL ON AMW 9/1

Lately, I have been getting the itch to search for new independent wrestling. I have been following all these groups on Facebook, trying to see what else is going on around the country.
I then stumbled across a poster for a company called Appalachian Mountain Wrestling out of Kentucky and saw one guy on the poster that really caught my eye:
El Sriracha Kid.
His match was going to air on the AMW YouTube channel against Kentucky Champion Elliott Russell. The masked man from Monterrey, Mexico getting a championship opportunity?
I was in.
The 50th edition of AMW Showdown took place at an outdoor festival in Kentucky, and championship fever was in the air. I immediately loved the vibe, as AMW felt immediately like old school Southern ‘rasslin’ with the vibe. Mainstream wrestling just doesn’t get that same type of vibe.
Kentucky Champion Elliott Russell made his way out first, accompanied by Tony Presley, the Manager of Champions. A few weeks before, Presley and Stan Sierra actually took out AMW General Manager Lemon Juice Jones with a fireball to the face. Obviously, Presley had to have eyes in the back of his head after that miscarriage of justice.
And then, the spicy competitor sprinted out to the ring like a bolt of lightning, or someone who was running around looking for a glass of water following a bite of food heavily laced with sriracha. El Sriracha Kid stuck out like a sore thumb, but as the only luchadore in AMW, he most certainly had a different aura about him.
The match was surprising to me. Instead of El Sriracha Kid looking to fly right away, he actually went hold-for-hold with the grungy looking Russell. Elliott, who actually won the Kentucky Championship in a six-way Scramble at The Superbowl of Wrestling on August 22, 2026, used his size to gain the majority of the offense.
Sriracha took one Hell of a beating. He genuinely looked like a 2026 version of NWA Light-Heavyweight great Lazer Tron in both look and style. He could take a licking and keep on ticking.
Finally, when Sriracha went on offense, he kept it to the ground, or as Matt “Palasma” Palaski told me, while watching the event with me on Discord, “the most grounded Lucha Libre”.
As soon as Matt said that, El Sriracha Kid delivered a scintillating 606, the area code of the Appalachian Mountains, to the exposed cranium of the Kentucky Champion. Would we see a new titleholder?
Sadly, as El Sriracha Kid went for his patented Flying Cross Body off the top rope, Russell caught him out of the air and drilled him with a powerslam, getting the three and remaining the Champion of “the Bluegrass State”.
I genuinely enjoyed the match and the entire Showdown program in general. However, to me, El Sriracha Kid had a heck of a lot of potential. I would love to see more of this masked performer around the country. Yet, I think he’s perfect for AMW. In fact, I dare say that because of the masked man, I will be tuning into AMW every Tuesday for the foreseeable future.
For those that are not happy with mainstream wrestling, you can find local wrestling anywhere. AMW has proved that with their promotion. A kid from Jersey watching some Kentucky pro ‘rasslin’? You darn right.
And I have El Sriracha Kid to thank. I hope the rocket gets strapped to this future star’s back. He will definitely light it up, especially in AMW.
